Why We Keep DFW Young & Social Events Affordable: A Deep Dive

Every so often, I like to peel back the curtain and share a bit of what drives us here at DFW Young & Social. Today, I want to talk about something that’s at the very heart of what Alexi and I do: keeping our events affordable. It’s not just a business decision—it’s a core part of our philosophy and our commitment to this community.

The Challenge of Making Friends

Let’s face it: making friends as an adult is tough. We’re all caught up in the hustle and bustle of life—careers, responsibilities, and the endless stream of things demanding our attention. When we finally do carve out some time to connect with others, it’s not always easy to know what to talk about or how to break the ice. That’s where activities come in.

We believe that shared experiences create natural connections. When you’re working on a craft, playing a game, or participating in a fitness class, the conversation flows more easily. The pressure to make small talk disappears, and suddenly, you’re bonding with someone over the joy of making something together. This is why our events are activity-driven; they’re designed to take the stress out of socializing and replace it with fun, creativity, and genuine connection.

Moral-First Pricing

One thing we’re adamant about is keeping our prices as low as possible. The materials for most activities aren’t expensive, and we believe it’s wrong to inflate prices just because we can. We’ve all seen it—those “curated experiences” that charge $50-$75 for something that, in reality, costs just a few dollars to put together. It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that people will pay more if you label it as premium, but that’s not who we are.

Take our candle-making classes, for example. The materials? They cost us about $2-$3 per person because we buy in massive bulk. Yet, there are events out there charging upwards of $50 for a similar experience. We offer it for $15, or even as low as $8 if you’re committed to the group. Why? Because we’re not here to make a quick buck. We’re here to build something meaningful—a space where people can come together, relax, and enjoy life without worrying about the cost. It’s about doing what’s right for our community, not what’s most profitable.

Accessibility for Everyone

When we say that DFW Young & Social is for everyone, we mean it. We want people from all walks of life to feel welcome, to feel like they belong. That’s why it’s so important to us that our events are accessible, both financially and socially. We don’t want anyone to feel like they can’t afford to join in or that they don’t fit in with the crowd. Our goal is to create an environment where the barriers to connection are as low as possible.

We know that for some, $50 for a single event might not seem like much, but for others, it’s a luxury they can’t afford. By keeping our prices low, we’re making sure that more people can participate, make friends, and be part of something bigger than themselves. It’s not just about having fun; it’s about building a community that’s inclusive, supportive, and open to everyone.

The Ethos of a Non-Profit

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: DFW Young & Social isn’t just a business—it’s a passion project. Alexi and I didn’t start this to make money; we started it because we care deeply about creating a space where people can connect, create, and find joy in the little things. In many ways, we operate with the ethos of a non-profit. We reinvest what we make back into the club, whether it’s improving our events, offering more classes, or simply keeping the lights on.

This is our way of giving back to a community that has given us so much. We’re committed to making sure that DFW Young & Social remains a place where everyone can come together, regardless of their financial situation. It’s not about how much money we can make—it’s about how much of a difference we can make in people’s lives.

A Space to Forget the Stress

At the end of the day, life is stressful enough. Our mission is to create a space where you can forget about the worries of the world, even if just for a few hours. We want you to walk into one of our events and immediately feel at ease, knowing that you’re surrounded by people who are there for the same reason: to connect, to unwind, and to enjoy life. That’s why we keep things affordable—so that more people can experience that sense of relief and belonging.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Alexi and I are grateful every day for the opportunity to do what we love and to share it with such an incredible community. We’ll keep working hard to make sure that DFW Young & Social remains a place where everyone can find connection, creativity, and joy, without breaking the bank.

Let’s keep building this together.
