Q&A with Crystal

What inspired you to become an instructor?
I’ve always been passionate about overall well-being and even studied to become a personal trainer, though at the time, it didn’t feel like the right path. A few years later, I became a regular at a yoga studio and enjoyed the practice. As someone who values bringing people together, creating meaningful experiences, and promoting mental health and mindfulness, yoga instruction felt like a natural fit.

What’s your teaching philosophy or approach?
My teaching philosophy is centered around finding what feels good in the body while keeping the practice engaging and enjoyable. I like to incorporate a bit of challenge, but I always encourage my students to have fun with the practice! Ultimately, my goal is to create a space where students feel empowered to explore their practice and connect with themselves.

What’s a surprising or fun fact about your journey in yoga?
When I first started yoga, I actually didn’t like it! But over time, I found yoga styles and instructors that resonated with me, and that changed my view of yoga. That’s why I encourage anyone interested in yoga, or even those who’ve tried it before, to explore different studios and instructors. You never know when you’ll find the style or teacher that works for you!

What do you love most about teaching at DFW Young & Social?
I enjoy meeting the people who come to class and learning more about their background and stories!

What’s one thing you’ve learned from your students?
What I think may be easy may not be easy for them haha, so I try to be mindful about that and gauge the room during the first moments of the practice.

If you could teach a class anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Hmm, great question. Somewhere with a lovely backdrop, somewhere visually appealing and serene.

What’s the most rewarding moment you’ve had as an instructor?
I think whenever someone genuinely enjoys the class, it's rewarding to see.

When you’re not teaching, what’s your favorite way to unwind?
I have a couple of ways: taking a walk, lounging at a friend's house, reading a book, and/or eating a good piece of dark chocolate.

What’s one thing you’d like people to know about your class?
Have fun with it! It's a way to reconnect with your body and enjoy some play time.
