Member Spotlight: Flo

DFW Young & Social is filled with unique and wonderful individuals, and it wouldn't be the same without you! Our Member Spotlight gives us the chance to say thank you for being a part of the community, and to highlight our wonderful members.

Meet Flo, our outstanding member for February 2024.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?

I'm a treasure trove of fun facts and surprises, fueled by an insatiable curiosity and a passion for learning. I am always picking up new skills and I like to think that I tend to learn it quickly. Most recently, I’m learning to slap the bass.

Are you currently binge-watching any shows?

I recently binge-watched the third season of Single’s Inferno on Netflix. I try not to get too invested in reality shows, but this season proved to be oddly captivating. There's a particular individual displaying an abundance of red flags, and I can't help but feel frustrated, and yet entertained, by their actions. If you know, you know.

Favorite DFW YAS event so far?

Learning to dance at the studio and then being able to put it to practice at the social events are definitely at the top of my list. Additionally, my artsy fartsy side relishes the opportunity to let my creative juices flow at the arts and crafts events. Aside from that, making new friends with the people I’ve met from DFW YAS have been tremendous.

Favorite hobby?

I love armwrestling. I’ve been practicing for about 4 years and in previous years, I competed in small tournaments and championships. In 2022, I placed 3rd in my weight class for the right arm at the Wisconsin State Championship. Socially, I enjoy asking strong individuals if they’d be interested and teaching them about the techniques and the basics of Armwrestling

Do you have any passion projects or side gigs?

A passion project of mine is a mobile game I’ve been working on called “Smith’s Tale”. It’s a game about an old blacksmith and his grand-niece who runs a humble shop, hunting and gathering their own materials of which they then use to craft weapons and armors.

Who is someone who’s made a big impact on your life? Why?

Rather than any specific individual, I would say that I am a person who was formed by the culture and communities around me. Growing up, I never stayed in one place for more than 5 years and it was rather difficult to form worthwhile connections. As such, I always try to bring some of what I learned into my next destination. Instead of one big impact, I like to think that there have been a lot of small impacts in my life that have left a meaningful, lasting positive impression on me.

Favorite place you’ve traveled?

I grew up in the suburbs in Indonesia in a city called Lippo. When I was a child, I didn’t think anything of it, as it was simply what I knew. Visiting back as an adult, and perhaps due to modern development, having money and freedom, nostalgia, or simply having a different perspective, I remember having the highest of positive emotions. I would love to visit more often. As for a place I’ve never been, I would love to visit Japan one day.
